CONFIDENCE.NORM function

Returns the confidence interval for a population mean, using a normal distribution.

Syntax

CONFIDENCE.NORM(alpha, standard_dev, size)

Square brackets indicate optional arguments.

Arguments

ArgumentRequiredMeaning
alphaYesThe significance level used to compute the confidence level. The confidence level equals 100*(1 - alpha)%, or in other words, an alpha of 0.05 indicates a 95 percent confidence level.0.05
standard_devYesThe population standard deviation for the data range and is assumed to be known.2.5
sizeYesThe sample size.50

Try CONFIDENCE.NORM

Calculate a normal confidence margin for a mean

=CONFIDENCE.NORM(A2,B2,C2)

This returns the margin of error, not a lower or upper limit: z(0.975)*2/SQRT(100), about 0.392. A confidence interval for a mean also needs the sample mean and appropriate sampling assumptions.
