NORMDIST function

The NORMDIST function returns the normal distribution for the specified mean and standard deviation. This function has a wide range of applications in statistics, including hypothesis testing.

Syntax

NORMDIST(x, mean, standard_dev, cumulative)

Square brackets indicate optional arguments.

Arguments

ArgumentRequiredMeaning
xYesRequired. The value for which you want the distribution42
meanYesRequired. The arithmetic mean of the distribution40
standard_devYesRequired. The standard deviation of the distribution1.5
cumulativeYesRequired. A logical value that determines the form of the function. If cumulative is TRUE, NORMDIST returns the cumulative distribution function; if cumulative is FALSE, it returns the probability mass function.true

Try NORMDIST

Read the legacy NORMDIST function name

=NORMDIST(A2,B2,C2,FALSE)

NORMDIST is the compatibility name corresponding to NORM.DIST. The observation is one standard deviation above mean 8. FALSE returns density EXP(-1/2)/(2*SQRT(2*PI())), rather than the cumulative probability. Use the modern name when creating a new formula; the old spelling is useful when reading existing workbooks.
