ZTEST function

Returns the one-tailed probability-value of a z-test. For a given hypothesized population mean, μ0, ZTEST returns the probability that the sample mean would be greater than the average of observations in the data set (array) — that is, the observed sample mean.

Syntax

ZTEST(array, x, [sigma])

Square brackets indicate optional arguments.

Arguments

ArgumentRequiredMeaning
arrayYesRequired. The array or range of data against which to test x.A2:A11
xYesRequired. The value to test.4
sigmaNoOptional. The population (known) standard deviation. If omitted, the sample standard deviation is used.10

Try ZTEST

Read the legacy ZTEST function name

=ZTEST(A2:A4,B2,C2)

ZTEST is the compatibility name corresponding to Z.TEST. The sample mean equals the null mean 2, giving z=0 with the supplied positive population deviation. The right-tail p-value is 0.5. This is a one-sided test, not a two-sided confidence statement. Use the modern name when creating a new formula; the old spelling is useful when reading existing workbooks.
