Editing · original practice scenario

Select one character right while editing

A1 contains North desk. While editing, the caret is just before the d.

Start here: Windows cell text edit mode, not worksheet selection mode

Typing now replaces the selected character. Esc abandons the edit.

Follow these instructions in your own desktop Excel workbook. This page explains the operation; it does not send commands to Excel.

Mac keys and context

Enter cell edit mode with F2, position the caret and hold Shift with the indicated arrow.

This catalog has no verified Mac binding for this operation. The steps below describe Windows. Choose Windows to use the walkthrough and recall controls.
