PivotTables · original practice scenario

Create a chart sheet from the selected PivotTable

Build a PivotTable with Team and Sum of Hours from Cedar/6, Harbor/4 and Cedar/2. Select a report data cell.

Start here: A cell inside a populated PivotTable on desktop Excel

The publisher lists Fn+F11 on Mac. Function-key and OS behavior vary. A normal range creates an ordinary chart; no native PivotChart refresh/edit round trip is certified here.

Follow these instructions in your own desktop Excel workbook. This page explains the operation; it does not send commands to Excel.

Walk through the operation

  1. Confirm that the active cell belongs to the PivotTable rather than the raw source.
  2. Use the listed key and inspect the newly created chart sheet.
  3. Check the chart uses the pivot categories and totals; return to the PivotTable to inspect its fields.

Instruction 1 of 3: Confirm that the active cell belongs to the PivotTable rather than the raw source.

Expected result: A separate chart sheet represents the current pivot report; verify Cedar 8 and Harbor 4 before treating it as the intended result.
