Drag and drop · original practice scenario

Move a selected block to another worksheet

In a disposable workbook, put Code and Quantity in A1:B1 and M7 and 4 in A2:B2 on Draft. Add a second empty sheet named Archive.

Start here: Cell selection border, outside edit mode, with an empty destination worksheet

Use a spare workbook and empty destination. A drag can move or overwrite cells; undo immediately if the destination is wrong. This is a held mouse gesture, not a key sequence.

Follow these instructions in your own desktop Excel workbook. This page explains the operation; it does not send commands to Excel.

Walk through the operation

  1. Select Draft!A1:B2 and point at its selection border rather than the fill handle.
  2. Hold the listed modifier while dragging the selection over the Archive tab, then into an empty destination range.
  3. Release at the destination and inspect both sheets before continuing.

Instruction 1 of 3: Select Draft!A1:B2 and point at its selection border rather than the fill handle.

Expected result: The selected block is moved to Archive; verify the destination values and the vacated source range.
