Selection · original practice scenario

Extend a selection right by one screen

In a wide worksheet with no merged cells or frozen panes, select C4 and note the visible rightmost column. Keep the Excel window size fixed.

Start here: Windows worksheet grid, starting away from the right edge with a single active cell

Do not expect a fixed cell count or the end of a data region. The Mac source conflict remains unresolved; no Mac recall answer is supplied.

Follow these instructions in your own desktop Excel workbook. This page explains the operation; it does not send commands to Excel.

Windows keys and context

Windows only in this catalog. The publisher Mac key table uses Option while its prose says Command is required and Option does not work; that conflicting Mac binding is withheld.

Alt+Shift+PageDown

Publisher-documented binding. Native desktop execution has not been tested.

Walk through the operation

  1. Select C4 in the worksheet grid and leave any formula editor.
  2. Hold Alt and Shift while pressing PageDown once.
  3. Inspect the horizontal extension from the original C4 anchor.
  4. Release the keys and click C4 to reset the selection.

Instruction 1 of 4: Select C4 in the worksheet grid and leave any formula editor.

Expected result: The selection extends right by one visible screen from its original anchor. The number of included columns depends on window width, zoom and column widths.
