Focus the Name Box without changing the selection

Select B2:B4 and note the current address shown beside the formula bar.

Start here: Windows desktop Excel 2016 or later; focus in the worksheet grid

The publisher scopes this Windows shortcut to Excel 2016 onward. Mac pane cycling is an alternative workflow, not an equivalent direct binding; no Mac binding is assigned.

Follow these instructions in your own desktop Excel workbook. This page explains the operation; it does not send commands to Excel.

Walk through the operation

  1. Use the listed chord to focus the Name Box above the grid.
  2. Confirm that B2:B4 remains selected; pressing the chord alone does not name or move the range.
  3. Press Esc to return focus without entering a new name or address.

Instruction 1 of 3: Use the listed chord to focus the Name Box above the grid.

Expected result: Keyboard focus reaches the Name Box while the worksheet selection remains unchanged.
