Toggle an Excel Table Total Row

Create a Table with headers Region and Revenue and four revenue values: 26, 18, 31 and 25. Leave the Total Row off and select a revenue data cell.

Start here: A data cell inside an actual Excel Table; Total Row initially hidden

This is a Table command. A range that only looks like a table is not sufficient. Filtered rows can change SUBTOTAL results; start with no filters.

Follow these instructions in your own desktop Excel workbook. This page explains the operation; it does not send commands to Excel.

Windows keys and context

The publisher lists Control on both platforms, including Mac. The operation changes Total Row visibility; it does not convert an ordinary range to a Table.

Ctrl+Shift+T

Publisher-documented binding. Native desktop execution has not been tested.

Walk through the operation

  1. Select a cell inside the Table, outside any formula editor.
  2. Use the listed combination to reveal the Table Total Row.
  3. In the Revenue total cell, choose Sum from its dropdown if needed; compare the result with 100.
  4. Use the combination again to hide the Total Row, then again to reveal it.

Instruction 1 of 4: Select a cell inside the Table, outside any formula editor.

Expected result: The four input rows remain intact. The Total Row can be hidden and shown; its Revenue sum is 100 when Sum is selected.
