Organize a workbook without breaking its formulas

Rename a linked source, make an independent copy, arrange the tabs and hide the original while its calculation keeps working.

Your workbook task

  1. Rename Plan Source to Reviewed Plan.
  2. Duplicate it as Next Plan.
  3. Place Next Plan immediately after Report.
  4. Hide Reviewed Plan; keep Report and Next Plan visible.
  5. Keep the original plan inputs and total.
  6. Change only the copied plan’s base B2 to 200.
  7. Keep Report linked to the original source.

Renaming should update Report’s reference. Copying should retain the plan formula while giving it separate inputs. Hiding keeps a worksheet and its formulas in the workbook; show it again when you need to edit it.

Report’s applied formula:

Create, reference and recover a worksheet

Reset before this separate exercise. A new sheet starts empty; a duplicate starts with a copy of another sheet’s contents. Deleting a source removes its cells and breaks references to it. Hiding keeps those cells and references available.

  1. Create Scratch Plan. Enter the number 200 in B2, then the formula =B2+10 in B3.
  2. Select Report and enter ='Scratch Plan'!B3 in B3. Both B3 results should be 210.
  3. Select Scratch Plan and apply tab color #22577A. Delete it and inspect Report B3.
  4. Use this lab’s Undo, Redo, then Undo again. The same source, formulas, reference and tab color should return. Check the recovered workbook and download it.

Recovery here uses this browser workbook’s history. Reset or reload replaces that workbook. Save a separate copy before deleting a sheet in your own spreadsheet application.

These are original local teaching workbooks. Reset restores the dataset. Keep one visible worksheet and no more than eight sheets in this lab. Downloads capture the current workbook. Native Excel edit/save compatibility remains a separate check.
