Desktop location and version differences

In recent Microsoft 365 versions use File → Open, then Add to Favorites or Remove from Favorites from a file’s context menu. Earlier Office versions offer a pin beside a Recent entry. Removing membership does not delete the file. Remove from List is a different action.

The linked desktop article does not establish every Mac menu path. This browser practice works through its explicit file-list controls on either platform.

Microsoft: Recent, Favorites and earlier pinning

Practice with these three original workbooks. The list and cell contents stay in this page’s memory; download a copy to keep edits beyond this session.

Your turn: access and contents

  1. Keep Cedar budget.xlsx and open it from Favorites or Pinned.
  2. Use the real formula/value bar or native grid to set its B2 to 27.125. Inspect the live B6 total.
  3. Open Harbor forecast.xlsx from Recent. Remove the target’s kept membership, then reopen the target from Recent.
  4. Check that the edited amount and working formula remain. Explain the access change and predict the newest Recent entry.
