CHIDIST function
Returns the right-tailed probability of the chi-squared distribution. The χ2 distribution is associated with a χ2 test. Use the χ2 test to compare observed and expected values. For example, a genetic experiment might hypothesize that the next generation of plants will exhibit a certain set of colors. By comparing the observed results with the expected ones, you can decide whether your original hypothesis is valid.
Syntax
CHIDIST(x, deg_freedom)Square brackets indicate optional arguments.
Arguments
| Argument | Required | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| x | Yes | Required. The value at which you want to evaluate the distribution.0.5 |
| deg_freedom | Yes | Required. The number of degrees of freedom.1 |
Try CHIDIST
Read the legacy CHIDIST function name
=CHIDIST(A2,B2)CHIDIST is the compatibility name corresponding to CHISQ.DIST.RT. At two degrees of freedom, the probability to the right of x=2 is EXP(-1). Add it to the corresponding left-tail CDF to obtain 1. Use the modern name when creating a new formula; the old spelling is useful when reading existing workbooks.
