CONFIDENCE.T function
Returns the confidence interval for a population mean, using a Student's t distribution
Syntax
CONFIDENCE.T(alpha, standard_dev, size)Square brackets indicate optional arguments.
Arguments
| Argument | Required | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| alpha | Yes | The significance level used to compute the confidence level. The confidence level equals 100*(1 - alpha)%, or in other words, an alpha of 0.05 indicates a 95 percent confidence level.0.05 |
| standard_dev | Yes | The population standard deviation for the data range and is assumed to be known.2.5 |
| size | Yes | The sample size.50 |

Calculate a t confidence margin with stated degrees
=CONFIDENCE.T(A2,B2,C2)This deliberately small arithmetic example uses df=1 and a 50% interval, whose two-tail t cutoff is 1. The margin is 1*2/SQRT(2). Real inference also requires suitable sampling and distribution assumptions.
