COVAR function

Returns covariance, the average of the products of deviations for each data point pair in two data sets.

Syntax

COVAR(array1, array2)

Square brackets indicate optional arguments.

Arguments

ArgumentRequiredMeaning
array1YesRequired. The first cell range of integers.A1:A4
array2YesRequired. The second cell range of integers.B1:B4

Try COVAR

Read the legacy COVAR function name

=COVAR({1;2;3},{2;4;6})

COVAR is the compatibility name corresponding to COVARIANCE.P. The centered product sum is 4. Divide by three paired observations for population covariance. Use the modern name when creating a new formula; the old spelling is useful when reading existing workbooks.

Inspect the current formula

Read its written arguments or observe actual operation values in a separate local calculation. This action neither applies a draft nor grades an answer.

Read the formula, one argument at a time

Explore the written function calls and their inputs. The calculation result belongs to the complete formula.

COVAR · top-level call

=COVAR({1;2;3},{2;4;6})
