GAMMALN function

Returns the natural logarithm of the gamma function, Γ(x)

Syntax

GAMMALN(x)

Square brackets indicate optional arguments.

Arguments

ArgumentRequiredMeaning
xYesThe value for which you want to calculate GAMMALN.4

Try GAMMALN

Keep a factorial-like value on the log scale

=GAMMALN(A2)

The gamma value at 5 is 24. GAMMALN returns its natural logarithm; keeping factorial-like calculations in logarithms can avoid very large intermediate numbers.

Inspect the current formula

Read its written arguments or observe actual operation values in a separate local calculation. This action neither applies a draft nor grades an answer.

Read the formula, one argument at a time

Explore the written function calls and their inputs. The calculation result belongs to the complete formula.

GAMMALN · top-level call

=GAMMALN(A2)

1 / 1 · x

The value for which you want to calculate GAMMALN.
