GROWTH function

Returns values along an exponential trend

Syntax

GROWTH(known_y's, [known_x's], [new_x's], [const])

Square brackets indicate optional arguments.

Arguments

ArgumentRequiredMeaning
known_y'sYesThe set of y-values you already know in the relationship y = b*m^x.B2:B7
known_x'sNoThe set of x-values you already know in the relationship y = b*m^x.A2:A7
new_x'sNoAre new x-values for which you want GROWTH to return corresponding y-values.A9:A10
constNoA logical value specifying whether to force the constant b to equal 1.true

Try GROWTH

Extend an exact exponential pattern

=GROWTH(C2:C5,A2:A5,5)

The supplied y-values double each time x increases by one. At x=5 the fitted exponential pattern gives 2^5=32. A fitted pattern is a calculation, not a promise about future observations.

Inspect the current formula

Read its written arguments or observe actual operation values in a separate local calculation. This action neither applies a draft nor grades an answer.

Read the formula, one argument at a time

Explore the written function calls and their inputs. The calculation result belongs to the complete formula.

GROWTH · top-level call

=GROWTH(C2:C5,A2:A5,5)

1 / 3 · known_y's

The set of y-values you already know in the relationship y = b*m^x.
