LOOKUP function

Looks up values in a vector or array

When you need to look in a single row or column and find a value from the same position in a second row or column

Syntax

LOOKUP(lookup_value, lookup_vectorOrArray, [result_vector])

Square brackets indicate optional arguments.

Arguments

ArgumentRequiredMeaning
lookup_valueYesA value that LOOKUP searches for in the first vector. Lookup_value can be a number, text, a logical value, or a name or reference that refers to a value.A1
lookup_vectorOrArrayYesA range that contains only one row or one columnA1:A20
result_vectorNoA range that contains only one row or column. The result_vector argument must be the same size as lookup_vector.A1:A20

Try LOOKUP

Use a sorted threshold table

=LOOKUP(D2,A2:A5,B2:B5)

The ascending thresholds are 0,10,25,50. Quantity 17 takes the value for the largest threshold not exceeding it: 10, labelled Small batch. This approximate lookup requires sorted thresholds.

Inspect the current formula

Read its written arguments or observe actual operation values in a separate local calculation. This action neither applies a draft nor grades an answer.
