NEGBINOM.DIST function
Returns the negative binomial distribution
Syntax
NEGBINOM.DIST(number_f, number_s, probability_s, cumulative)Square brackets indicate optional arguments.
Arguments
| Argument | Required | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| number_f | Yes | The number of failures.10 |
| number_s | Yes | The threshold number of successes.5 |
| probability_s | Yes | The probability of a success.0.25 |
| cumulative | Yes | A logical value that determines the form of the function. If cumulative is TRUE, NEGBINOM.DIST returns the cumulative distribution function; if FALSE, it returns the probability density function.true |
Try NEGBINOM.DIST
Count failures before the third success
=NEGBINOM.DIST(A2,B2,C2,FALSE)For the third success to occur after exactly two failures, the final trial is a success. The first four trials contain two successes in 6 orders, each five-trial sequence having probability 1/32.
