PERCENTRANK function

The PERCENTRANK function returns the rank of a value in a dataset as a percentage of the dataset -- essentially, the relative standing of a value within the whole dataset. For example, you could use PERCENTRANK to determine the standing of an individual's test score among the field of all scores for the same test.

Syntax

PERCENTRANK(array, x, [significance])

Square brackets indicate optional arguments.

Arguments

ArgumentRequiredMeaning
arrayYesRequired. The range of data (or pre-defined array) of numeric values within which percent rank is determined.A1:A4
xYesRequired. The value for which you want to know the rank within the array.1.5
significanceNoOptional. A value that identifies the number of significant digits for the returned percentage value. If omitted, PERCENTRANK uses three digits (0.xxx).3

Try PERCENTRANK

Read the legacy PERCENTRANK function name

=PERCENTRANK(A2:A5,20,6)

PERCENTRANK is the compatibility name corresponding to PERCENTRANK.INC. Inclusive endpoints use ranks 0 through 1, so the second of four sorted values has rank 1/3. The third argument retains six significant digits in the returned rank. Use the modern name when creating a new formula; the old spelling is useful when reading existing workbooks.
