POISSON.DIST function
Returns the Poisson distribution
Syntax
POISSON.DIST(x, mean, cumulative)Square brackets indicate optional arguments.
Arguments
| Argument | Required | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| x | Yes | The value for which you want the distribution.2 |
| mean | Yes | The arithmetic mean of the distribution.5 |
| cumulative | Yes | A logical value that determines the form of the function. If cumulative is TRUE, POISSON.DIST returns the cumulative distribution function; if FALSE, it returns the probability density function.true |
Try POISSON.DIST
Find the chance of two events in an interval
=POISSON.DIST(A2,B2,FALSE)Under a Poisson model with mean 3, P(X=2)=EXP(-3)*3^2/2!. FALSE requests exactly two events. The model assumes events occur independently at a constant mean rate.
