TREND function
Returns values along a linear trend
Syntax
TREND(known_y's, [known_x's], [new_x's], [const])Square brackets indicate optional arguments.
Arguments
| Argument | Required | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| known_y's | Yes | The set of y-values you already know in the relationship y = m*x+b.B2:B7 |
| known_x's | No | The set of x-values you already know in the relationship y = m*x+b.A2:A7 |
| new_x's | No | Are new x-values for which you want TREND to return corresponding y-values.A9:A10 |
| const | No | A logical value specifying whether to force the constant b to equal 0.true |
Try TREND
Extend an exact straight-line pattern
=TREND(B2:B5,A2:A5,5)The supplied points follow y=2*x+1, so the fitted value at x=5 is 11. Edit one observed y-value to see the fitted line change.
Inspect the current formula
Read its written arguments or observe actual operation values in a separate local calculation. This action neither applies a draft nor grades an answer.
Read the formula, one argument at a time
Explore the written function calls and their inputs. The calculation result belongs to the complete formula.
TREND · top-level call
=TREND(B2:B5,A2:A5,5)1 / 3 · known_y's
The set of y-values you already know in the relationship y = m*x+b.
