Increase cell alignment indent

Enter Hardware in B3. Use left alignment with no indent, then select B3 without entering text-edit mode.

Start here: Windows desktop Excel with an English Ribbon; a text cell selected, not edited

Ribbon key tips depend on interface language and version. Cell alignment indent is separate from grouping rows, inserting spaces or editing a formula.

Follow these instructions in your own desktop Excel workbook. This page explains the operation; it does not send commands to Excel.

Mac keys and context

Press Alt+H, then 6 in sequence. Mac aliases on the publisher page overlap with its reverse-operation page and include OS-sensitive combinations; no Mac binding is accepted here.

This catalog has no verified Mac binding for this operation. The steps below describe Windows. Choose Windows to use the walkthrough and recall controls.

Walk through the operation

  1. Select B3 and confirm that the cell itself has focus.
  2. Press Alt+H, release the keys, then press 6.
  3. Inspect the additional space between the cell edge and the displayed text.
  4. Select B3 again and inspect the formula bar value.

Expected result: The display moves inward by one indent level. The cell value remains Hardware, with no inserted leading spaces.
