Change rows and columns while keeping formulas linked
Insert a record, remove a retired line and replace an internal-note column with literal IDs. Inspect the actual formulas on both worksheets after every change.
Build the revised report
- In Lines, enter
=C2*D2*(1-E2)in F2; enter the equivalent row formulas in F3 and F4, and=SUM(F2:F4)in F5. Inspect the linked Audit formulas and results. - Insert one row before row 3. In the blank row enter Notebooks in A3, quantity 3 in C3, unit price 4.125 in D3 and discount 0.2 in E3. Enter the line formula in F3. The old total and Audit reference should have moved to row 6.
- Delete row 5, containing the retired original item Trays. Retain the first two original records and the new item; the total returns to row 5.
- Insert one column before column B (position 2). Then delete column C (position 3), the old Internal note. Enter literal
Record ID,001,NEWand002in B1:B4 using the single-cell entry controls. Watch the references move right and back. - Hide row 4 and column D (position 4). Hiding retains their data in the totals; deletion removes cells and can break a direct reference. Use Show to inspect them at any time; finish with row 4 and column D hidden, then check.
Positions are one-based: A=1, B=2, C=3. Insert places space before the selected position. Delete removes complete rows or columns from this browser-local workbook. Draft controls do nothing until applied.

Recover a workbook change
Undo affects the workbook’s most recent action, including an action on another worksheet. Redo reapplies it. A new applied edit discards the redo branch. Drafts, selection, checks and downloads do not replace that branch. Reset starts a new workbook; this history is not saved across reloads.
- After completing the revised report, delete column D. Inspect the lost unit prices and actual reference errors.
- Undo once. Inspect the restored prices, formulas and Audit total. Check the report again.
- Redo to inspect the deletion again, then Undo to finish with the complete report. You can also practice undoing row changes, cell entries and hidden dimensions.
0 undo action(s), 0 redo action(s) in the actual workbook stack.
A successful history move confirms the stack changed. The actual worksheet inspection and report check establish what was restored. Each cell entry through these controls is one Undo action.
Actual workbook inspection
This inspection includes hidden cells. Blank unused cells are omitted. Values, formulas and visibility come from the current workbook, including edits made directly in the grid.
