BETAINV function

Returns the inverse of the cumulative beta probability density function for a specified beta distribution. That is, if probability = BETADIST(x,...), then BETAINV(probability,...) = x. The beta distribution can be used in project planning to model probable completion times given an expected completion time and variability.

Syntax

BETAINV(probability, alpha, beta, [A], [B])

Square brackets indicate optional arguments.

Arguments

ArgumentRequiredMeaning
probabilityYesRequired. A probability associated with the beta distribution.0.685470581
alphaYesRequired. A parameter of the distribution.8
betaYesRequired. A parameter the distribution.10
ANoOptional. A lower bound to the interval of x.1
BNoOptional. An upper bound to the interval of x.3

Try BETAINV

Read the legacy BETAINV function name

=BETAINV(A2,B2,C2)

BETAINV is the compatibility name corresponding to BETA.INV. For this Beta(2,2) distribution, 3*x^2-2*x^3 equals 0.15625 at x=0.25. The inverse returns the x-value for the supplied cumulative probability. Use the modern name when creating a new formula; the old spelling is useful when reading existing workbooks.
