PERCENTOF function
Measure a subset as a share of a complete set.
Sum the subset and divide it by the sum of the complete set. A zero denominator produces a division error. The supplied local example is checked independently; native Excel availability depends on the installed version.
Syntax
PERCENTOF(data_subset, data_all)Square brackets indicate optional arguments.
Arguments
| Argument | Required | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| data_subset | Yes | Values whose share of the total is required. |
| data_all | Yes | All values making up the denominator. |
Try PERCENTOF
Measure a subset share with signed adjustments
=PERCENTOF(A2:A3,A2:A5)The subset sums to 30-10=20 and all entries sum to 100, so the share is 0.2 (20% when formatted as a percentage). PERCENTOF uses sums, not a count of rows. A zero denominator is an error, not a zero share. This function requires a supported modern Excel version.
