T.TEST function

Returns the probability associated with a Student's t-test

Syntax

T.TEST(array1, array2, tails, type)

Square brackets indicate optional arguments.

Arguments

ArgumentRequiredMeaning
array1YesThe first array or range of data.A1:A4
array2YesThe second array or range of data.B1:B4
tailsYesSpecifies the number of distribution tails. If tails = 1, T.TEST uses the one-tailed distribution. If tails = 2, T.TEST uses the two-tailed distribution.2
typeYesThe kind of t-Test to perform.1

Try T.TEST

Compare equal sample means with nonzero variation

=T.TEST(A2:A5,B2:B5,2,2)

Both sample means are 2.5, so the t statistic is zero and the two-tailed p-value is 1. The final 2 selects the independent equal-variance form; choosing a test also requires suitable sampling assumptions.
