FORMULA HELP

Find the next thing to check.

Look up a question, inspect a formula’s structure, then try a working example.

Published explanations come from 19 original troubleshooting topics. The lookup inspects structure without calculating a pasted formula. For generated advice and an explicit local trial, use the local formula assistant. Current task observations remain available inside task and function worksheets.

Your question and formula stay in this tab. They are not added to the URL, sent to a service or saved in browser storage. Clear them here or leave the page.

Ask a new Excel question, then try the formula

Generate an English explanation with Chrome’s local model. Suggestions can be wrong; inspect the assumptions and run a separate trial on your sample. Opening this section does not generate or execute a formula.

Checking local model availability…

Unselected columns keep literal text, including leading zeros, = signs and error-looking labels. Selected numeric columns accept plain finite numbers; their empty cells are blank.

Cell rowABC
1RegionStatusAmount
2EastPaid10
3WestPaid20
4EastPending30
5EastPaid-5

The trial writes only to J2 in a copy of these literal cells. It allows at most 144 result cells and stops a calculation that exceeds its time limit. No model suggestion is run automatically.

Your question, cells and answer remain in this tab unless you download them. They are not put in the URL or browser storage. Model files may need a browser-managed download. No paid backend or prompt upload is configured.

Check the record and its available fields

A #FIELD! result needs an actual record and a field that belongs to it.

  1. Inspect the attached field table in the local example. A plain label or a concatenated text result does not carry a record. Equal labels can belong to different source cells.
  2. Check the field name or the cell that supplies it. An existing zero, FALSE or empty text field is different from an absent field. Preserve an upstream calculation error while fixing its source.
  3. A source-label change suspends its old local fields. Apply replacement record JSON whose labels match the current source, or reset the example. This local data is not a connected Stocks or Geography feed.
  4. Download fixed results with the record audit, or keep the JSON for local practice. These workbooks do not serialize native linked data types; native FIELDVALUE recalculation requires its own real data-type source.
