PivotTables · original practice scenario

Open the legacy PivotTable Wizard on Windows

Prepare a simple rectangular source with headers Item and Units and select a cell within it.

Start here: Windows desktop Excel supporting legacy menu access; worksheet focus

Do not hold all keys together. The publisher warns that the wizard disappeared on Mac 2016; its historical Mac key is withheld. Insert > PivotTable is the current menu alternative.

Follow these instructions in your own desktop Excel workbook. This page explains the operation; it does not send commands to Excel.

Walk through the operation

  1. Press and release Alt+D, then P in sequence.
  2. Inspect the dialog identity and source options before continuing.
  3. Cancel the wizard after inspection so no report is created accidentally.

Expected result: The legacy PivotTable Wizard is inspected without creating or overwriting a report.
