FDIST function

Returns the (right-tailed) F probability distribution (degree of diversity) for two data sets. You can use this function to determine whether two data sets have different degrees of diversity. For example, you can examine the test scores of men and women entering high school and determine if the variability in the females is different from that found in the males.

Syntax

FDIST(x, deg_freedom1, deg_freedom2)

Square brackets indicate optional arguments.

Arguments

ArgumentRequiredMeaning
xYesRequired. The value at which to evaluate the function.15.2069
deg_freedom1YesRequired. The numerator degrees of freedom.6
deg_freedom2YesRequired. The denominator degrees of freedom.4

Try FDIST

Read the legacy FDIST function name

=FDIST(A2,B2,C2)

FDIST is the compatibility name corresponding to F.DIST.RT. For F(2,2), the right-tail probability is 1/(1+x), giving 1/4 at x=3. This complements the F.DIST left-tail result. Use the modern name when creating a new formula; the old spelling is useful when reading existing workbooks.
