TTEST function
Returns the probability associated with a Student's t-Test. Use TTEST to determine whether two samples are likely to have come from the same two underlying populations that have the same mean.
Syntax
TTEST(array1, array2, tails, type)Square brackets indicate optional arguments.
Arguments
| Argument | Required | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| array1 | Yes | Required. The first data set.A1:A4 |
| array2 | Yes | Required. The second data set.B1:B4 |
| tails | Yes | Required. Specifies the number of distribution tails. If tails = 1, TTEST uses the one-tailed distribution. If tails = 2, TTEST uses the two-tailed distribution.2 |
| type | Yes | Required. The kind of t-Test to perform.1 |
Try TTEST
Read the legacy TTEST function name
=TTEST(A2:A5,B2:B5,2,2)TTEST is the compatibility name corresponding to T.TEST. Both sample means are 2.5, so the t statistic is zero and the two-tailed p-value is 1. The final 2 selects the independent equal-variance form; choosing a test also requires suitable sampling assumptions. Use the modern name when creating a new formula; the old spelling is useful when reading existing workbooks.
