FINV function

Returns the inverse of the (right-tailed) F probability distribution. If p = FDIST(x,...), then FINV(p,...) = x.

Syntax

FINV(probability, deg_freedom1, deg_freedom2)

Square brackets indicate optional arguments.

Arguments

ArgumentRequiredMeaning
probabilityYesRequired. A probability associated with the F cumulative distribution.0.01
deg_freedom1YesRequired. The numerator degrees of freedom.6
deg_freedom2YesRequired. The denominator degrees of freedom.4

Try FINV

Read the legacy FINV function name

=FINV(A2,B2,C2)

FINV is the compatibility name corresponding to F.INV.RT. For F(2,2), solving 1/(1+x)=0.25 gives x=3. This argument is the right-tail area. Use the modern name when creating a new formula; the old spelling is useful when reading existing workbooks.

Inspect the current formula

Read its written arguments or observe actual operation values in a separate local calculation. This action neither applies a draft nor grades an answer.

Read the formula, one argument at a time

Explore the written function calls and their inputs. The calculation result belongs to the complete formula.

FINV · top-level call

=FINV(A2,B2,C2)

1 / 3 · probability

Required. A probability associated with the F cumulative distribution.
